Created by professional manicurist and salon owner Kara Jeffers, Miss Frankie is polish that’s passionate about your long-term nail wellbeing. Made in Australia, Miss Frankie’s healthy nail polishes utilise an innovative ten-free formula – that means it doesn’t contain the common toxic ingredients found in many varnishes – that also allows penetration by air and water. The result is healthier, happier nails. Plus, they’re safe to use when pregnant or on kids who like their fingers to have a little flourish. 

What inspired you to start your business, and what was the first thing you did to begin the process?

For 11 years I owned a nail salon in Melbourne’s CBD. Working with nail polish every day, I knew the products well and saw there was a gap in the market. When my lease was up, I decided it was time to take the leap and create Miss Frankie.

Because my children were older and not in the ‘baby’ phase any more, it was definitely time for me to start my own brand. With my years of experience manicuring and listening to my customers, I knew how much demand there was for quality, no-nasties nail polish.

What inspires you? 

I am inspired by other people’s journeys into running their own businesses.  I am a huge fan of podcasts interviewing business owners who talk honestly about running a business. My current fave podcasts are Lady Start Up’s, Lady Brains, Mentored and How I Built This.  By listening to other people’s stories you really understand that everyone goes through a similar journey of up’s and downs and that is all a part of it. 

What is the best business advice you have ever received?

Put money aside for quarterly BAS!!!  And follow your instinct.  If something does not feel right then it probably isn’t.

What are your favourite things to do to take a break?

I definitely like to seek the sunshine.  Anywhere with a beach and I don’t have to cook is a winner!
