Did you know that Random Acts of Kindness Day is on 17 February?
This special day encourages everyone to express kindness by carrying out small but significant gestures.
If you’ve never heard of it before, then stick around. We’re going to explain everything you need to know about the day and what you can do to celebrate!
What is Random Acts of Kindness Day?
Random Acts of Kindness Day is the culmination of a week in February when kind gestures are encouraged to make the world a better place.
It was started by The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, based in Ontario, Canada, in 1995 and has now spread all over the world.
Leading up to the day itself on 17 February, participants are encouraged to carry out small but heartfelt gestures in the spirit of kindness.
It’s all about making a loved one or stranger’s day just that little bit better by being kind.
Gestures can be as small as smiling at a stranger to those on a bigger scale, like creating a shared garden for your neighbours.
So your kindness can benefit an individual, group or whole community. And, with every small gesture, you are helping to change the world.

Once you start making a conscious effort to be kind, there’ll be no stopping you! Take a look at some of our suggestions for inspiration.
Be kind with coffee
When you go out for a coffee during Random Acts of Kindness Week (13-19 February), make sure you show your appreciation to your server. Smile, make eye contact and thank them for bringing you your drink. Tip them if you can — even the smallest contributions will make all the difference.
Little but lovely gift boxes
The theme is small but mighty, so why not send a little but lovely customised gift box to someone you love? Choose one of our unique gift boxes, fill it with handpicked goodies and send it with a personalised message to someone you love.
Spend time with seniors
Be kind with your time. Why not commit to spending time with an older family member or neighbour? Ask them to tell you all about their life and experiences. They will have a wealth of stories and pearls of wisdom to share, so this one is definitely a win-win!
Of course, you don’t have to limit these random acts of kindness to one week in February. Try practising them all year round so that the world benefits from your kindness and you get that buzz from knowing you’ve brightened someone’s day!
